Tips for Communicating with Faculty
Faculty are your partners in ensuring access to class materials and content.
Below are some tips for successful implementation of your accommodations and building a strong relationship with your faculty.
- Contact your professors as early in the semester as possible to discuss your accommodation(s). You can schedule a meeting during their office hours, arrange a phone appointment, or reach out via email.
- Be prepared; think about what you will discuss with your professors. If you are unsure, discuss with your Access Coordinator in Student Disability Resources.
- Share your Notification of Disability Accommodation email with your professors and discuss the accommodations with them.
- Focus on your accommodation(s), not your disability.
- You do not need to disclose your diagnosed disability to your professors to receive accommodation(s).
- Be open to suggestions or comments from faculty. Accommodations often require a collaborative effort, and professors may be able to offer creative suggestions for implementing accommodations.
