Collaboration and Engagement
UND is committed to a culture of ongoing collaboration rather than occasional cooperation.
In the same spirit as our founders and early townspeople who came together to celebrate the University of North Dakota’s groundbreaking in 1883, we regularly strive to find new ways to engage and collaborate with others to build connections and embrace the tradition of impactful service to one another, to North Dakota and our region.
UND is committed to a culture of ongoing collaboration rather than occasional cooperation. With the needs of others at the forefront, we seek to serve our community, the state of North Dakota, and others for whom our time and expertise can be a resource. With an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit, we seek to develop partnerships that create new opportunities for economic development in addition to research and educational collaborations which will meet evolving community and workforce needs. As such, we must examine how we can develop an institutional ecosystem that supports and facilitates collaborations that serve those around us and contribute to the educational, cultural, and economic life of our region.

Workgroup Questions to Consider
- In what ways can we advance research and educational collaborations to address the health, educational, safety, cultural and economic needs of our community, state, and region?
- How do we develop and nurture partnerships that help address North Dakota and regional workforce demands?
- How do we examine and build upon the current, interdisciplinary work being done with the Grand Challenges, seeking new and innovative ways for UND to collaborate, engage and have positive, long-term impact in our communities, North Dakota, our region and beyond?
- How do we sustain and enhance meaningful collaborations with our Tribal Colleges and Tribal Nations?
- How do we deepen our collaborations with P-12 educational providers on initiatives that support access to higher education, workforce development and impactful community engagement?
- How do we collaborate with other institutions of higher education in ways that provide access to educational opportunities that meet the needs of our region?
- How do we grow relationships with business, industry, and governmental partners to generate experiential learning and research opportunities for students?
- How can we partner and collaborate with outside entities to prepare UND students to be leaders that will make a real-world impact?
- How do we enhance our campus environment in ways that makes it easier for outside stakeholders to find ways to partner, engage and collaborate?
- How do we deepen alumni and donor collaborations that grow their sense of belonging to the UND community and helps sustain the vision and mission of the institution?
- How can UND collaborate and contribute when it comes to enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion for workforce or development needs of North Dakota and the region?
- How do we create a network of partnerships—both within the UND community, the local community, the state, and the nation—that contributes in measurable and significant ways to the development and advancement of North Dakota?
