Prepare for the Major-Minor+Grad Fair
Unsure about how to prepare for the event or what questions to ask? No worries! We've got you covered. Check out our helpful suggestions and tips, tailored to your class year, to make the most of your visit:
- Visit major/department tables offering majors, minors, certificates, or graduate programs related to your interests.
- Ask the faculty and major/department representatives about recommended introductory courses and supplementary courses to explore.
- Ask the faculty and major/department representatives about what their major, minor, certificate, or graduate programs have to offer, both for your academic and career development.
- Be open to exploring your options, including introducing yourself to academic programs you have not studied or considered before.
If you’re feeling lost or overwhelmed, make sure to stop by the Academic & Career Exploration table!
- Visit the academic department of your major/minor but make sure to explore other majors and graduate programs as well.
- Inquire about suggested major and minor elective courses that relate closely to your area of interest or career goals.
- Discuss how you can start obtaining hands-on experiences in your field of study as a student.
- Inquire about “experiential learning” opportunities, such as research, internships, or study-abroad programs offered through the department.
- Visit Career Services to discuss your career goals.
- Talk with an academic advisor to discuss your academic plans.
- See Study Abroad to ask about studying internationally.

- Discuss with your major/academic department the career opportunities associated with your major/minor.
- Explore graduate school options by speaking with your academic department and other departments as well.
- Discuss research, internships, study abroad, and other experiential learning opportunities with your academic department and with the Experiential Learning Center.
- Discuss your resume, cover letter, and interviewing skills with Career Services.
- Explore your career and graduate program options with Academic & Career Exploration.
- Check in with an academic advisor to ensure you’re on track to graduate.
- Check in with your academic department to discuss your plans for the rest of your academic year and your career goals.
- Learn more about career opportunities associated with your major and start to formulate a plan for post-graduation.
- Inquire about graduate school options within your academic department and across the university.
- Visit with academic advisors to identify deadlines for applying for graduation or for graduate school.
- Talk with Career Services to discuss applying for jobs, resumes, cover letters, interviews, etc.
- Meet with Academic & Career Exploration if you’re unsure what your next steps should be. Explore graduate school options and career options associated with your major and interests.
