Term

Definition

Early Alert Checkpoint

An optional report of progress given in the third week of a class sent by faculty through Hawk Central. Not all students will receive a checkpoint for any/all classes during this time period.

Midterm Checkpoint

A mid-semester report of your academic progress in a class sent by faculty through Hawk Central. A high alert is an alert raised in Hawk Central notifying the student of their deficient grade in the class at that point.

Dismissal

After the first suspension, failure to achieve minimum academic standards will result in the student being dismissed from the University. Dismissed students may apply to return to the University after a minimum of one year separation from the Institution. Dismissed students must provide evidence of academic potential and a plan for significant academic success in their application for reinstatement.

Good Academic Standing

Students who have earned fewer than 90 total hours will be considered in good academic standing if they maintain a UND grade point average (GPA) of C (2.00) or higher. Students who have earned 90 or more total hours will be in Good Academic Standing only with a 2.00 or higher GPA on both UND and cumulative hours.

Suspension

A student on Academic Warning who earns less than a 2.00 term GPA at the end of the semester of warning is considered not to be making good academic progress and will be suspended. Suspended students may apply to return to the University after one semester's absence (not including the summer semester) through seeking reinstatement by the Dean of their academic college.

Warning

Students who do not meet the GPA requirements for Good Academic Standing (i.e. have fallen below a 2.00 GPA) will be placed on Academic Warning.

The term for a former student who graduated with a degree from UND.

Some platforms ask for school year to indicate the number of years completed. This is different than credits completed and class standing.

  • For graduates: A student taking 1 - 8 credits in any academic semester (fall/spring/summer).
