General
Virtual class registration is the day incoming freshman students will receive an email from UND.advising@UND.edu with a list of recommended fall classes to enroll in, and detailed instructions for how to register.
- This is not an on-campus event.
- The virtual class registration process can be completed at any time — on or after your selected virtual class registration date.
- The virtual class registration process will take less than 30 minutes.
Two business days after you claim your NDUS account and pay your enrollment confirmation, you can access the UND Orientation Program Reservation System and select your virtual class registration date.
If you've claimed your account, paid your enrollment confirmation deposit, and waited two business days after paying your deposit, and are unable to log in to the reservation system beginning Jan. 25, please contact us at 701.777.4200 or newstudents@UND.edu.
You will reserve a virtual class registration date in the UND Orientation Program Reservation System. Reservations opened on Jan. 25, 2025.
Based on your major, virtual class registration dates occur between May 13 and July 8. This date is based on the college of your specific major.
Please contact UND Academic Advising at 701.777.2117 or email UND.advising@UND.edu to change your virtual class registration date.
You can register for your classes as soon as you receive your recommended class list email at 10 a.m. CDT, on your virtual class registration date.
While it is recommended that you register on that day, if possible, you do not need to leave a class or other commitment to register as soon as you receive the recommended class list.
Class Recommendation & Registration
Academic advisors will use the information you provided in the UND Orientation Program Reservation System, along with the requirements for your majors/programs to make class recommendations.
Transfer courses and exams that are reported as "in-progress" in the UND Orientation Program Reservation System, are assumed to be passed and officially submitted to UND before the beginning of the fall semester. Should a course not be successfully completed, you may work with your assigned academic advisor to adjust your schedule as necessary.
The classes recommended to you will include notes from an academic advisor about whether they are necessary for the upcoming semester to remain on a timely graduation path, or if there are alternate class options that fulfill the same requirement.
Yes! Schedule changes may be done throughout the summer. Please contact your assigned academic advisor for assistance.
On average students register for 15-16 credits per semester; however, this may vary depending on your major/program and your incoming credits. If you have questions, reach out to your assigned academic advisor.
The Academic Catalog lists the requirements for each of the majors/programs. Work with an academic advisor to ensure that sequencing and class offerings are taken into account when graduation planning.
Students should choose the language class-level that meets their experience in the language. The parameters and opportunity for lateral credits are covered on the languages website.
These are the breadth of knowledge and special emphasis classes that meet learning goals required for all undergraduate programs at UND. In many majors or minors, there are classes that fulfill the major requirements as well as an Essential Studies designation.
Please contact UND Academic Advising at 701.777.2117 or email UND.advising@UND.edu to change your major/program before your virtual class registration date. An academic advisor can assist with determining how to combine majors and minors.
If you would like to explore your options, we also have the Academic & Career Exploration team ready to assist with combining your skills, interests, and goals with major/program choices and career opportunities.
Academic advisors are assigned shortly before you receive your virtual class registration email instructions and recommended class list. Your recommended class list contains contact information for your assigned academic advisor(s).
Please reach out to UND Academic Advising at 701.777.2117 or email UND.advising@UND.edu.
Math Placement
All students who have a major or double major, where a math class is required, need to take the math placement assessment unless an approved placement method such as ACT/SAT scores, exam credits, or transfer credits are applicable.
ACT or SAT math subscores, if officially submitted to UND, can place you into the following math classes:
*ACT Placement
ACT Math Subscore | Math Class Placement |
---|---|
0 - 20 | Math 98 |
21 - 25 | Math 103, 105, 107, or 110 |
26 - 36 | Math 103, 105, 107, 110, 146, or 208* |
27 - 36 |
Math 103, 105, 107, 110, 146, 165, or 208* *Math 208 is not recommended for first semester freshmen. |
*SAT Placement
Placement based on SAT is as follows:
- SAT Math score of 530 or higher may register for Math 103, 105, 107, or 110
2. Scores from AP (Calculus AB or Calculus BC exams), CLEP (College Algebra, Precalculus, or Calculus exams), or IB (mathematics) exams, if officially submitted, can be used to place you in the correct math class. See the AP, CLEP, and IB links above for details.
3. PSEO or dual-credit classes successfully completed in math can place you into the next appropriate math class.
4. Transfer credits in math can place you into the next appropriate math class.
*Submitting official ACT / SAT scores to UND does not give students academic credit for math. Scores are used only as a placement tool for a student's first semester.
Students in programs that require math placement are on a contact list to remind them of that requirement. Within a few days of taking the assessment and receiving a score that places you in the math required for your program, you will be removed from the list.
Should you choose not to take the math placement exam a second or third time or forego taking the assessment without other means of placement, fill out the question form at the link below to let us know that you are staying with the placement you received. In that case, we’ll remove you from the contact list.
