Financial Aid Eligibility
Find out if you qualify for financial aid—and if you do, how to make sure you continue receiving it.
The only way to know to be sure if you're eligible to receive financial aid—and the amount you may receive—is by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Credits Required to Receive Financial Aid
To receive financial aid, you must be a fully admitted degree-seeking student who is enrolled full time:
- 12 + credits = full time
- 9 – 11 credits = ¾ time
- 6 – 8 credits = half time
- 1 – 5 credits = less than half time
Most UND courses are 3 credits. In some cases, you may qualify for limited financial aid as a part-time undergraduate student (at least 6 credits) or a part-time graduate or law student (at least 5 credits).
If you are enrolled in less than 5 credits you may still qualify for Federal Pell Grant, ND State Grant and some types of UND scholarships and private loans.
Courses Not Eligible for Financial Aid
The following are not eligible for state and federal financial aid
- Coursework that doesn't count toward UND's graduation requirements
- Audited classes
- Continuing Enrollment
- Certain certificate programs (see eligible programs)
- Open-enrollment courses taken online or by mail
- Self-Paced Enroll Anytime courses
Standards to Receive Financial Aid
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards ensures students are meeting progress toward their degree while continuing to receive financial aid. Students not meeting SAP standards may risk losing some or all of their aid.
