Aid Eligible Programs
All full bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs and select other approved programs qualify for financial aid.
Financial aid eligibility varies by program type, course format and enrollment status. Be sure to review the eligibility requirements below to determine if your program or course may qualify for aid.
Several undergraduate and graduate certificate programs qualify for federal or state financial aid. Not all certificate programs are eligible.

- Post-Graduate APRN Certificate - Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Combined and accelerated programs allow you to earn both an undergraduate and graduate degree in less time in fields like engineering, business and health care.
Financial Aid Eligibility
- You're eligible for undergraduate financial aid until you're formally admitted to the UND School of Graduate Studies (typically at 90 credits for most programs).
- Once admitted to graduate school, you're eligible only for graduate-level financial aid and must take at least 5 credits in graduate-level courses per semester to maintain eligibility.
If you're enrolled in an official UND Cooperative Education Program, which combines classroom learning with professional work experience, you may be eligible for aid.
Financial Aid Eligibility
- Your financial aid eligibility will be reviewed after you register for a cooperative education course.
- If your aid changes, you'll receive an email notification to your UND account.
- If your enrollment status changes, please notify One-Stop Student Services.
Many online and distance education programs qualify for financial aid. However, eligibility depends on enrollment status, program type and course structure.
Eligible for Aid
- Online programs that lead to a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree.
- Approved certificate programs.
- Online courses that follow a semester schedule.
Not Eligible for Aid
- Open-enrollment or correspondence courses that do not follow a semester schedule.
- UND's Self-Paced, Enroll Anytime (SPEA) courses.
- Certain certificate programs.

Federal regulations limit the number of times financial aid can be used to cover repeated courses.
Financial Aid Eligibility
- You may receive federal financial aid to retake a failed course, regardless of how many attempts it takes to pass the course.
- However, you cannot receive federal financial aid for a course you've passed and repeated more than twice.
Students who have already earned a bachelor's degree are generally not eligible for financial aid.
Exceptions
- A graduate or professional program. If admitted, you may qualify for graduate-level financial aid.
- An undergraduate degree program that is substantially different from your first undergraduate degree.
The financial aid you can receive over your lifetime or your overall length of study may be limited.
If you've applied for or are receiving financial aid, you remain eligible when studying abroad.
Financial Aid Eligibility
- Studying abroad is often more expensive, so you may qualify for additional financial aid
- Most additional aid will be in the form of loans.

You may be able to use financial aid for summer courses.
Financial Aid Eligibility
- Summer is considered the final semester of the current financial aid year. If you've already accepted your full aid amount for the fall and spring semesters, you may not have any remaining federal aid for summer courses.
- You must have a FAFSA for the current academic year on file.
- You must meet minimum enrollment requirements:
- Undergraduate students = 6 semester-based summer credits.
- Graduate students = 5 semester-based summer credits.
- Law students = 3 semester-based summer credits.
