How To Apply For Apartments

Follow the steps to apply for on-campus apartments and select a meal plan.

Before You Apply for Apartments

Prospective residents may apply for the apartment they desire before they are eligible, but must verify eligibility prior to moving in.

1. Know your top three housing choices and explore the apartment options. You will be asked to list your top three preferences.
2. Determine your occupancy date. You will be asked to list the date you wish to start your Lease Agreement and move in. This is the date that your rental obligation will begin and the date you start paying rent.
3. Know the First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, and UND ID Number, if applicable, of all other individuals who will be residing in your apartment. You will be asked to list this information on your application.

1. Log into your Housing Self Service using your NDUS credentials.
2. At the top of the Housing Self-Service page, select Application and Forms. In the drop down menu select the “Apartment Application”.  Please note that the term listed after the Apartment Application name does not affect your move-in date. We will utilize the date you indicate as your Occupancy Date as your desired move in date.
   
3. You will be required to complete the application questions and pay the $60 non-refundable application fee by E-check or credit card.
4. If you do not yet have your Campus Connection Login information, please contact Housing and Residence Life at 701.777.4251.

2. Select A Meal Plan

Apartment students that would like to purchase a meal plan, can find more information about non-residence hall student meal plans

To select your dining plan:

1. Login to Housing Self Service
2. From the menu, select Dining >> Dining Plans
3. Filter for the corresponding semester and year, usually displayed as Fall 20XX.
4. Choose one of the available dining plans and select Purchase Meal Plan. (You will only see plans you are eligible for.)
5. Your Dining Plan will now show in your Housing Self Service

Apartment Assignment Process

All applicants are placed on a waiting list in the order we receive the completed application and the $60 non-refundable application fee.

1. We begin trying to match you to an apartment about 60 days prior to your requested move-in date.
2. The waitlist is sorted based on date of application as well as move-in date. The applications are sorted in two groups, those with a move-in date on the 1^st - 15^th of the month and then those with a move-in date on the 16^th - end of the month. Once the applications are grouped by move-in date, they will then be sorted by date of application.
3. If one of your apartment choices matches an apartment that is available, you will receive an apartment assignment letter. Assignment letters are emailed to your UND email address. Make sure to check your UND email address on a regular basis. You will only have 7 days to accept your assignment once it has been sent.
4. If no match is found, you will receive an e-mail letting you know we were unable to make an assignment and given the option to modify your application preferences to include other unit types. If you do not want to expand your preferences, you will then be bypassed (maintaining your original priority number on the waiting list) and the next applicant is considered for assignment.
5. This process is followed until all available apartments have been assigned.
6. You will remain on the waiting list until you receive an assignment or you cancel your application.

Apartment Eligibility

To be eligible to reside in University apartments, the Occupants must meet one of the following criteria. The eligibility requirements set out here are for University Housing purposes only and do not apply to other University program requirements. Written permission from the University must be secured before any other person is allowed to reside in the apartment. All Occupants who meet the Leaseholder requirements must apply and sign their own Lease.

UND Student

1. Any undergraduate who has fulfilled the First Year Live-On Requirement for the residence hall community. Students who have fulfilled this requirement are defined as undergraduate students who:

• Lived in the residence hall community for the first year following their high school graduation or equivalent, or
• Have more than 24 transferable, post-secondary, semester credits that have been earned following high school graduation or equivalent, or
• Have a spouse/partner and/or maintains custody or visitation rights for children or other dependents.

Please note that the first-year, live-on requirement requires students to live in the residence halls until the Saturday before finals week of the Spring Semester. Students can complete the application at any time but you must meet one of the above mentioned requirements before you can check-in to an on campus apartment.

Undergraduate student Leaseholders must enroll in, maintain, and complete at least nine (9) credit hours each semester.

2. Any student who is pursuing a graduate or professional degree.  Graduate/professional student Leaseholders must enroll in, maintain, and complete at least six (6) credit hours each semester.

Student Leaseholders must maintain enrollment each semester until graduation or discontinued enrollment, but do not need to attend summer school if enrolled for the following fall semester.

Post-Doctoral Research Fellows, Certified Flight Instructors, Medical Residents, and Faculty/Staff/UND Affiliates

Written verification or proof of employment/affiliation must be provided prior to assignment and for each additional semester of occupancy.

Non-Leaseholder Occupants

Non-leaseholder occupants must meet one of the following.

1. Spouse/partner.
2. Child or dependent of the primary Leaseholder or of the partner/spouse of the Leaseholder.
