Getting Started
Expand your academic horizons and discover new possibilities by studying abroad.
UND offers opportunities to spend time studying abroad over spring break, for a semester or a full academic year!
Steps to Studying Abroad
It's never too early to start thinking about studying abroad. We recommend starting the process at least one year before the term you plan to travel, as applications are due the term before. Students with any major can study abroad - as long as you plan accordingly. To help you get started, follow the steps below:
1. Create your study abroad profile and explore program options
Create a study abroad profile using your UND login credentials. Fill out the intake survey and browse through UND's program portfolio. Review the different program models and tips for selecting a program for more details.
2. Attend a Study Abroad 101 session
Attend a 30-minute Study Abroad 101 session or watch the recorded Study Abroad 101 video before making an appointment with the Study Abroad office. Study Abroad 101 covers the basics of study abroad at UND.
3. Meet with your academic advisor
Set up a meeting with your Academic Advisor to discuss how study abroad can fit into your academic plan and what classes to look for abroad. Use the academic planning page for tips on getting started and to find questions to ask your academic advisor.
4. Meet with a study abroad advisor
After completing the previous steps, you can set up a meeting on Hawk Central with a study abroad advisor. Study abroad advisors help you navigate the application process, review program options, and plan for your time abroad.
5. Set a budget
Investing in your future and making significant decisions requires budgeting. Use the Cost & Aid page to find budgeting tools and explore scholarship opportunities.
