Non-Degree Seeking Students
UND welcomes non-degree seeking students!
Non-degree seeking students typically take a course or two to meet academic or professional goals, or apply to a certificate program, but each case is unique.
Non-degree seeking students go through an admission process similar to degree-seeking students, however, they do not typically have a Hawk Central account and are not assigned an academic advisor. Non-degree seeking students at UND generally complete courses by enrolling in self-paced or semester-based courses.
SPEA – Self-Paced Enroll Anytime
Self-paced enroll anytime (SPEA) courses are administered by the Office of Extended Learning and are a flexible option for many students. Visit Self-Paced Enroll Anytime Online Courses for additional information.
Semester-based Courses
Non-degree seeking students who plan on taking semester-based courses should check the course catalog for prerequisites. Students may enroll in courses without prerequisites by following the Schedule Planner instructions. Those needing prerequisite evaluations, however, must request them by completing the Prerequisite Evaluation Request Form.
Before completing the form, make sure to gather required information and documentation. It's also recommended that you use Transferology to see how your existing college credits will help you meet prerequisite requirements at UND.
Please note: Only forms submitted by UND email addresses will be processed.
Required information includes:
- your EMPLID and UND email address
- the name of the course, including course prefix and number (academic catalog)
- prerequisites listed in the academic catalog
- the semester you plan to take the course
- the section and class numbers (Campus Connection > Student Self Service > Class Search > Choose UND as institution & select the appropriate term, then select the subject, including section and class numbers).
Required documentation (PDF format) includes:
- unofficial transcript(s)
- syllabi demonstrating prerequisite courses taken
If you don’t have the syllabus for a specific course, please reach out to the institution where you took the course for a copy. All required information and required documentation must be included in the submission for prerequisite evaluation to occur. Students who complete the form incorrectly will be notified and asked to resubmit the form with the required information and documentation.
Enrollment requests will only be processed during the open enrollment period. Once the form is submitted, students will typically get a response within 3-5 business days and should check their UND email for updates.
