Your Health & Wellness
Supporting your well-being—wherever you are in your journey.
UND Veteran & Military Services (VMS) recognizes that mental and physical wellness looks different for everyone. Whether you’re adjusting to campus life, balancing responsibilities, or simply trying to stay grounded, you don’t have to do it alone.
We’re committed to supporting your overall well-being and connecting you with trusted resources when you need them. Seeking support is a sign of strength, and our goal is to ensure every military-affiliated student feels welcomed, respected, and empowered to thrive—both in and out of the classroom.

You're Not Alone
Military-affiliated students may experience stress related to major life transitions, changes in identity, family responsibilities, deployment experiences, or career disruptions. Recognizing these challenges early can help you connect with support before they become overwhelming.
Supporting Fellow Veterans
VA S.A.V.E. Approach
VA S.A.V.E. is a suicide prevention program that teaches community members how to:
- S – Signs: Look for signs of hopelessness, anxiety, anger, increased substance use
- A – Ask: Speak directly and openly, ask “are you thinking about hurting self?”, be natural. Do not ask in a way that implies you’re looking for a no, listen
- V – Validate: Validate their experience and listen without judgment
- E – Encourage: Encourage them to seek out help to connect to support, do not leave the veteran alone, and do not keep it secret.
You don’t need to have all the answers—just showing up matters.
Mental + Physical Wellness Resources
Mental and physical health are deeply connected—taking care of one supports the other. Wellness isn’t just about getting through hard moments, it’s also about building connection, purpose, and community.
The VMS Student Lounge in McCannel Hall offers military-affiliated students a welcoming space to relax, study, connect, and recharge. With comfortable seating, study and conference rooms, technology resources, and gathering spaces, the lounge serves as a supportive hub that promotes well-being, community, and student success.
Check out the year-round green space in the VMS Student Lounge! All military-connected students are invited to relax, study, connect, and exercise your green thumb. Take advantage of houseplant rehabilitation services, holiday-break plant sitting, and learn planting tips, tricks, and techniques. Stop by for occasional baby plant giveaways and bring a little more greenery into your own space.
