Questions & Answers: Faculty Success

About the Faculty Success Reporting System

What is Faculty Success?

Faculty Success is UND’s web-based system for faculty activity reporting, annual evaluation, and related faculty review processes.

Why is UND using Faculty Success?

To create a consistent, reliable institutional record of teaching, research/scholarly/creative activity, service, and other faculty accomplishments and to ease the burden on faculty for updating faculty activity across multiple platforms and formats.

Is Faculty Success new to UND?

No. Faculty Success has been used at UND for several years, with particularly strong adoption in the Nistler College of Business & Public Administration and the College of Arts & Sciences. The current implementation expands its use university-wide across all colleges and faculty evaluation processes.

Is Faculty Success a secure system?

Yes. Log in access to Faculty Success is directly linked to the NDUS Single Sign-On System (SSO). This multi-factor authentication process ensures only you are able to access your account and update data.

Is information entered in Faculty Success publicly visible?

No. Access to information in Faculty Success is limited to UND employees involved in faculty evaluation and related processes, consistent with their roles and responsibilities at UND.

Are faculty required to use Faculty Success?

Yes. Faculty Success is UND’s required platform for faculty activity reporting and evaluation.

Will Faculty Success change how UND faculty are evaluated?

No. Faculty Success changes how information is collected and documented. It does not change departmental evaluation criteria or who is responsible for completing each stage of the evaluation.

How will Faculty Success benefit faculty?

Faculty Success is intended to reduce redundant requests for information and streamline faculty processes into one system.

Using Faculty Success

When can I start adding data to my account?

You can begin data entry any time. We highly recommend adding and updating your service and research/scholarly/creative activity information as it occurs, so you do not have a backlog of information to update.

What is a report?

A report in Faculty Success compiles information you have entered into the system into a formatted summary for a particular purpose or period of review. You can think of a report as a type of CV for a defined period of time: it pulls together relevant teaching, research/scholarly/creative activity, service, and other accomplishments already entered in Faculty Success.

What is a workflow?

A workflow, by contrast, guides a faculty evaluation or review process from beginning to completion. Reports organize and display your information; workflows move that information through the appropriate steps of a process, such as annual evaluation or Page 2 approval.

I need an updated Page 2. How do I start that process?

You do not need to create a new Page 2; you can simply edit your current one. After discussing the proposed changes with your department chair, you may update your workload percentages at any time in Faculty Success. However, those changes are not official until the revised Page 2 has completed the approval process. Your department chair will need to submit a Workflow Revision Request to initiate the Page 2 approval workflow.

Implementation, Timeline, and Feedback

What is the Faculty Success implementation timeline?

UND will have a phased implementation to bring all faculty processes into Faculty Success. The proposed implementation timeline is as follows:

  • Page 2s: Spring 2026
  • Annual evaluations: 2026-2027
  • Promotion and tenure process: 2027-2028
  • Post-tenure review: 2028-2029

Will faculty have an opportunity to provide input and feedback on the Faculty Success implementation?

Yes. Over the past two years, Faculty Affairs and University Analytics & Planning have worked with associate deans, college staff, and faculty to pilot the Page 2 and Annual Evaluation processes in Faculty Success. A promotion and tenure pilot was completed in spring 2026. Following each pilot, participants were invited to provide feedback, which has been incorporated into the implementation.

In Fall 2026, an advisory committee building on the existing Faculty Success Fellows structure will convene to provide ongoing advice and feedback as implementation continues.
