Before Move-In
Find everything you need to know about living on campus before you move-in.
The following steps and guidelines are available for you to complete before you make the move to UND. Please review all the information to be fully prepared for your move.
Fall Welcome Weekend
Students moving in during Welcome Weekend Move-In for the fall semester must sign up for move-in time.
Verify Emergency Contacts
In the case of an emergency, we may need to contact someone on your behalf. Please verify your emergency contact information in Housing Self Service.
Prepare For Move-In
- Review the packing guidelines below. When you start packing, make sure to label your boxes, bags, totes, and suitcases with your name and room number.
- Connect with your roommate or suitemate! Talk about what you're bringing for the room so that you don’t double-up and bring two of the same thing, and get to know them. Their email address is listed in your room assignment email and Housing Self Service.
- If you bring a car, make sure you purchase a parking permit. Parking lots are assigned according to the residence hall where you live.
- Look for your ID card (U Card) at orientation. You will use your U Card to enter the residence hall that you live in. You will need to have it at all times so you can enter your building.
- Review the Dining Center Process. Download the GET app to manage your dining plan. Download Grubhub which can be used as an order-ahead service.
- Visit Housing Self Service throughout the summer to make sure your roommate/suitemate hasn't changed. Maybe your roommate has decided not to attend UND; there are several reasons why you may not have the same roommate you did earlier.
Packing Guidelines
Furnishings
Please note that all university furniture, including bed parts, must stay in the room or apartment. There is no storage space available for University furnishings to be moved to accommodate personal items.
Residence Halls
- Twin XL Bed and mattress (the bed frame lofts to various heights including lofting)
- Dresser
- Desk
- Chair
- Window coverings
- Wastebasket and recycling bin (one per room)
University Place
Each University Place Apartment will include the same furnishings that are listed for residence halls spaces in the bedrooms. However, University Place also has a living room and kitchen that are furnished with the following:
- Sofa
- Two end-tables
- Leather recliner with ottoman
- Two counter stools

Bed Frame and Mattress
Bed frames adjust to various heights, including loft height, in all halls. See bed lofts for dimensions of the bed, how high you can raise the bed, and what can fit under it.
The mattress is 80" long and 36" wide. Beds may also be bunked on this frame/mattress by attaching a second metal bed frame at the bottom. The extra wooden sides must be stored in the student's room if bunking is preferred.
Building Services
Secured By Card Swipe System
All of the residence halls on campus have a card-swipe system installed at the main entrance that students scan to gain access to the building, keeping the community safe and secure!
Lounges and Recreation Equipment
There are lounge spaces in almost every building that students can use to study, hang out, or play games in. Many of the lounges have recreation equipment like ping-pong and pool tables.
Shared Kitchen
There is a shared kitchen located in most buildings that students can use to cook meals with friends, wash dishes, or warm-up food in a microwave.

Bedding, MicroFridge and Carpet
We have partnered with a few different companies that offer a wide variety of services and products for students.
We partner with Collegiate Concepts, INC. to offer a 700-watt microwave and 3.1 cubic feet fridge combination appliance that is designed for our residence hall spaces. The dimensions of the MicroFridge is 44" height x 18.75" width x 19.75" depth.
MicroFridge® with Safe Plug® is the only approved microwave by Housing & Residence Life because it's safe. There are no exposed heating elements and MicroFridge® with Safe Plug®'s patented internal circuitry is designed to reduce energy consumption.
