Course Materials

So, you want to make your course content accessible?

Providing accessible course content is an essential part of building an inclusive and equitable learning environment. This page outlines practical strategies and tools to help ensure that all students can access and engage with your content. From selecting accessible textbooks to designing inclusive documents and media, each step supports accessibility.

What can I do immediately?

  • Remove Outdated or Irrelevant Content: Eliminate outdated or irrelevant materials to ensure that only accurate, essential information is presented.
  • Create an Accessible Syllabus: A syllabus functions as both a guide and a contract between instructor and student. Use Simple Syllabus to simplify syllabus creation, automate institutional policies, and support student engagement—all while ensuring accessibility.
  • Choose an Accessible Textbook: Selecting an accessible textbook ensures that all students have equal access to course content. Select the textbook option below for guidelines on evaluating textbook accessibility.
  • Integrate Accessibility into Every Document: Refer to the document-specific pages provided to learn how to address common accessibility issues across different file types.
  • Use Built-in Accessibility Checkers: Take advantage of accessibility checkers. Many commonly used programs have built-in accessibility checkers. While not comprehensive, these checkers provide helpful insights for improving document accessibility. Explore the accessibility checker in [Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Blackboard Ultra.]
  • Work with Accessible Software: Review the software tools listed below to identify platforms that support accessible content creation and delivery.
  • Seek Support When Needed: For complex accessibility challenges, contact TTaDA for assistance. Submit an Accessibility Assistance Ticket or request an Instructional Design Consult.
