Writing a Syllabus
Getting Started with Writing a Syllabus
- Establish course and lesson goals/objectives. What should students know or be able to do as a result of taking the course.
- Design your course utilizing Backwards Course Design. The Course Design Matrix and Course Checklist can guide you in the process.
- Create a dynamic syllabus using CourseLeaf SYL with updated University policies that you can copy over and easily update. CourseLeaf SYL is integrated with Blackboard and meets accessibility and UND Marketing standards.
- If creating your own stand alone syllabus outside of CourseLeaf SYL:
- Use our Syllabus Template. The template contains some syllabus best practices, examples and official University policies. The syllabus has also been formatted for accessibility and approved by UND Marketing.
- Comply with the latest accessibility guidelines, by ensuring your syllabus is screen-reader friendly. For directions on how to make your syllabus and other course materials accessible visit the Create Accessible Content page on the TTaDA website.
